I just heard that musician Leah Senior decided to take down all her tracks from Spotify. Does anyone know what happened here? I was really enjoying her music and now I can’t find any of her songs on the platform anymore. Is this something that happens often with independent artists? I’m wondering if there was some kind of dispute with Spotify or if she’s moving to a different streaming service. Has anyone else noticed other artists doing similar things recently? I’m curious about the reasons behind these decisions and whether her music will still be available somewhere else. Would love to hear from anyone who knows more about this situation or has experience with how these platform changes usually work.
totally feel ya! i noticed that too, her music’s on bandcamp still. indie artists really struggle with payout issues on spotify, so makes sense she’s goin for a better option to earn from her work. hope her music finds a good home!
This shows a bigger trend - indie musicians are fed up with Spotify’s business model. Artists get fractions of pennies per stream, so it’s nearly impossible to make a living from the platform alone. Leah Senior probably did the math and realized direct sales through Bandcamp or her own site bring in way more money per purchase than thousands of Spotify streams ever would. Indie artists often get better control over distribution and pricing when they ditch major streaming platforms. The numbers just don’t add up for smaller artists who don’t have millions of monthly listeners to offset those tiny payouts.
