Just wanted to see if others had similar experiences interviewing there. I got through to their final interview stage after doing well at other top companies recently. Even though I didn’t land those other roles, the feedback was really positive about my background and how I presented myself.
But this HubSpot interview was awful. The interviewer showed up 15 minutes late and then started hitting me with really aggressive questions about lead generation. I walked him through my entire approach - how I rank prospects by company size and revenue potential, my research methods, using tools like Power BI and Tableau for data analysis, the whole thing.
When I finished explaining everything, he just goes “okay but how do you actually generate leads?”
I literally repeated the same explanation and he responds with “sounds like you don’t really understand lead generation, which is strange.”
Then this guy gets up twice during our call - once to feed his dog and another time for a bathroom break. Each time he was gone for like 5 minutes.
The whole thing felt super disrespectful and left me feeling pretty terrible about myself. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of treatment from their interview team?
That’s incredibly unprofessional and unacceptable for any company, especially HubSpot. I’ve done plenty of tech interviews and what you described goes way beyond normal interview stress or tough questions. Multiple extended breaks? That’s just disrespectful of your time. And asking the same question after you gave a solid answer? He either wasn’t listening or was trying to mess with you on purpose. Sure, some interviewers push back to test pressure handling, but there’s a huge difference between legitimate probing and dismissive behavior. You probably just got someone having a bad day or someone who has no business interviewing people. I’d honestly reach out to HR about this - it reflects terribly on their hiring process and company culture.
Sounds like you got stuck with someone who had no business interviewing people. I went through HubSpot’s process two years ago and it was completely different - professional interviewers who asked tough but fair questions. The constant interrupting and dismissive attitude after you gave detailed answers? That’s not normal for them at all. Most decent companies actually train their interviewers not to pull this crap. Maybe this person was having a bad day or just sucks at interviewing. Don’t take it personally - your prep and answers sound solid. Sometimes you just get unlucky with whoever’s sitting across from you.
This definitely isn’t HubSpot’s usual standard. I interviewed there 18 months ago for a similar role and went through multiple rounds with different team members - everyone was on time, prepared, and actually listened to my answers. The fact that this person kept leaving and then questioned your skills after you gave a detailed breakdown shows they weren’t even paying attention. HubSpot usually has structured interview processes to prevent exactly this kind of mess. You probably got stuck with someone covering last minute or dealing with personal drama. Either way, their behavior was completely unprofessional and reflects poorly on whoever put them in charge of interviews. Your lead generation approach sounds solid and well thought out.
Yikes, that interviewer sounds like a complete mess. HubSpot usually has their act together, but every company has that one person who shouldn’t be doing interviews. Getting up to feed his dog? What the hell was that about? Your lead gen explanation sounds way more thorough than most candidates would give, so don’t let this clown make you doubt yourself.
