Can you actually convert a plain-language process description into a production workflow without halfway rebuilding it?

So there’s this pitch going around about AI Copilot features that convert plain English descriptions of workflows into ready-to-run automation. A business person describes what they want, the AI generates the workflow, and you’re live.

I’m skeptical. Not because the concept is bad, but because I’ve seen “AI-generated” products before and there’s usually a gap between what the AI outputs and what actually works in production. The logic might be right conceptually, but missing error handling, edge cases, or specific business rules that don’t make it into the plain-language description.

For our BPM migration, we’ve been thinking: what if we had process owners describe their workflows in plain English, fed that to AI, and got executable workflows that our team could validate and deploy? That would actually be faster than the traditional method of interviews, requirements docs, and developers building from scratch.

But I need to know: has anyone actually used an AI copilot to generate workflows and deployed them without significant rework? Or is the rework happening later when you discover the workflow doesn’t handle the edge cases nobody mentioned in the description?
