I’ve been reading about autonomous AI teams and the concept is interesting, but I’m skeptical about the execution. On paper, it sounds amazing. You have an AI agent that logs in, another that navigates, another that extracts data, and they somehow coordinate to get the job done without manual intervention. But in reality, doesn’t this just become a coordination nightmare?
My worry is that you’d spend most of your time defining handoff points, debugging when one agent doesn’t understand what the previous agent did, and fixing the inevitable miscommunications. Like, what happens when the login agent finishes but the navigation agent doesn’t notice? Or when the extraction fails silently and nobody knows?
I’ve built multi-step automations before, and the debugging complexity grows exponentially. Adding AI to the mix could either solve that or make it worse.
The thing that intrigues me is whether there’s actual coordination or if it’s more about sequential execution with error handling. Like, are these agents truly working together and making decisions based on each other, or are you just running scripts in sequence and hoping they chain correctly?

It’s in defining what each agent should do if something unexpected happens. I found that building robust fallback logic for each agent eliminates most of the debugging headaches. When one agent encounters an error, it’s designed to either recover or gracefully fail with clear logging. Functional multi-agent systems require careful architectural design. Each agent should have a single, well-defined responsibility. Coordination happens through explicit data exchange rather than implicit communication. Error handling must be comprehensive at the team level. When designed properly, these systems are actually more reliable than complex single-step automations because failures are isolated and logging is clear.
