I’m trying to change the layout of Jira issues when editing them. Right now, sections like Details, More Fields, and Automation are on the right side. But I want them to be in a single column at the bottom instead. Is this possible?
I’ve looked through the settings but can’t find an option to switch to this vertical layout. Has anyone done this before? If so, could you share the steps?
I’m using the cloud version of Jira, if that makes a difference. Any help would be appreciated!
hey there HappyDancer99, im been using jira for a while and havent seen an option to change the layout. the cloud version is limited in customization. try a browser extension or custom css if youre tech-savvy, or ask jira support.
I’ve encountered this issue before, and it can be frustrating. Unfortunately, Jira Cloud’s layout options are quite limited compared to the server version. One workaround I’ve used is to create a custom issue view using Jira’s ‘Issue Navigator’ feature. You can configure this to display fields in a more vertical layout, though it’s not perfect.
Another option is to look into Jira add-ons from the Atlassian Marketplace. There are several that offer enhanced customization for issue layouts. ‘Structure’ and ‘Custom Fields’ are two that come to mind, but they do come with additional costs.
If these options don’t work for you, consider submitting a feature request to Atlassian. They do take user feedback into account for future updates. In the meantime, you might have to adapt to the current layout or explore alternative project management tools that offer more flexibility in their UI design.
As a long-time Jira user, I can confirm that the cloud version doesn’t offer built-in options to change the layout as you’ve described. Atlassian tends to keep the cloud interface standardized. However, you might consider using a third-party app from the Atlassian Marketplace that offers layout customization. Some of these apps provide additional flexibility for issue views. Alternatively, if you’re open to switching, Jira Server or Data Center versions offer more customization options, including the ability to modify layouts through custom fields and screen schemes. Keep in mind this would require self-hosting or a different licensing model.
