Creating subscript and superscript text formatting in Notion pages

I recently switched from OneNote to Notion for taking notes and organizing my work. While I really like many features that Notion offers, I’m having trouble with one specific formatting issue. I need to add subscript and superscript text in my Notion blocks but can’t figure out how to do it.

In OneNote, this was pretty straightforward, but I’m struggling to find the same functionality in Notion. I’ve tried looking through the formatting options but nothing seems to work for creating subscript or superscript text.

Has anyone found a way to format text with subscripts and superscripts in Notion? I really need this feature for my scientific notes and mathematical formulas. Any workaround or solution would be greatly appreciated!

i feel ya, henry. i’ve just been copyin stuff from docs too, haha. using unicode like ² is a quick fix. not the best, but it gets the job done for formulas! hope it helps!

Notion lacks built-in options for superscript and subscript text, which has been a common drawback among users. For my scientific notes, I’ve utilized a couple of workarounds. One method is using Unicode characters, such as H₂O or E=mc², for everyday use. Alternatively, you can embed a Google Doc or use the equation block to achieve more complex formatting. While these aren’t ideal solutions, they suffice until Notion addresses this formatting limitation.

For subscripts and superscripts in Notion, try using the equation block feature. Just type /equation to access a LaTeX editor where you can enter expressions like H_2O for subscripts and x^2 for superscripts, which renders well in the app. Additionally, if you’re looking for inline text solutions, you can use the web clipper to capture formatted text from Google Docs or Word, and it tends to retain the formatting when pasted into Notion.
