Describing a workflow in plain language and getting production-ready code: is this realistic or hype?

I’m extremely skeptical because this feels like the “write code with AI” hype from 2023. The reality there was that AI-generated code needed substantial human refinement to be production-usable.

But I’m also wondering if workflow generation might actually be different. Workflows have more structure than arbitrary code. Maybe describing a workflow is simpler than describing a whole application.

Here’s what I’m trying to understand: if I describe something like “when a new customer signs up, validate their email, check them against our CRM for duplicates, then route high-value customers to sales and regular customers to onboarding,” could an AI actually generate something deployment-ready? Or is it generating 70% of the logic and I’m still rebuilding 30% manually?

Also, realistically, how much trial-and-error is involved? Do you describe it once and deploy, or do you iterate multiple times to get it right?

I’ve tested this with actual use cases, and the honest answer is it depends massively on workflow complexity.
