Did GitHub remove the contribution streak feature?

GitHub Contribution Streaks Missing

I’ve been checking my GitHub profile and noticed something weird. The contribution streak counter that used to show how many consecutive days I’ve made commits seems to have disappeared completely.

At first I thought it was just my account, but when I looked at other developers’ profiles, they’re all missing the streak display too. The contribution graph is still there showing the green squares, but the actual streak number is nowhere to be found.

This is really frustrating because I was tracking my progress and trying to maintain a good coding habit. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is there a setting I need to toggle to bring back the streak counter, or did GitHub actually remove this feature entirely?

I’ve tried refreshing the page and checking on different browsers but nothing works. Any help would be appreciated!

yeah, that’s been gone for ages. honestly, it was pretty toxic anyway - i saw devs making fake commits just to keep their streaks alive. the green squares still show your activity patterns, which is way more useful than some random streak number.

GitHub ditched the contribution streak feature back in 2016 because it was putting too much pressure on developers. People were making pointless commits just to keep their streaks alive, which totally defeated the purpose of tracking real contributions. You can still see your activity on the contribution graph, but the consecutive day counter is gone. I’ll admit I was bummed when they removed it since I had a decent streak going, but honestly it took away that daily stress of having to commit something even when I didn’t have anything meaningful to contribute.
