Hey everyone! So I recently got back into collecting after a really long break. My last purchase was way back in 2009, and I just picked up a new figure. I’m comparing my newer Alice figure (which measures about 145mm) with my older Kanu figure (around 130mm), and there’s a pretty noticeable size difference between them. Both came from the same trusted retailer that’s an authorized GSC distributor, so I know they’re genuine. I’m wondering if this is because Max Factory adjusted their scaling standards over the years, or if it’s just that different anime series use different size standards for their characters? It doesn’t really bother me much since I can just keep them separate when taking photos, but I’m planning to buy more figures soon and want to know if the newer ones will all match up size-wise! Thanks for any insight! ![]()
That height difference is totally normal. Max Factory hasn’t changed their basic proportions much over the years, but they’ve gotten way better at making figures accurate to the actual characters. Back in 2009, they tried to make all figures roughly the same height regardless of the series. Now they focus on matching each character’s real proportions from their anime. Your Alice being taller than Kanu probably reflects their actual height difference in the shows. I’ve been collecting since 2008 and noticed this shift toward accurate character scaling really took off around 2012-2013. The newer figures you’re buying will vary in height based on the characters themselves, not some universal standard. You’ll get more variation but way better accuracy to the original designs.
