I’m looking to move away from my current email provider but running into some issues. Been using the same account for about 10 years now and need help finding alternatives.
My main concerns are:
Domain appearance - I want something that looks normal and professional. Services like Proton or Tuta have domain names that might seem odd to regular people. I need something for job applications and don’t want the email address itself to be a problem. Even considered going back to Yahoo since people recognize it more.
Cost - Really hoping to find a free option. I know paid services exist but trying to avoid monthly fees if possible. Not sure how some providers offer free accounts while others charge.
Storage space - Currently have around 9GB of old emails I’d want to transfer over. Need enough room for that plus several more years of regular use. Probably looking at 20GB total minimum with option to upgrade later.
Anyone have suggestions for email providers that tick these boxes? Would really appreciate recommendations from people who’ve made similar switches.
Outlook’s solid for this. You get 15GB free and @outlook.com looks totally normal to employers - nobody’s gonna question it. I made the switch from an old provider three years back and their migration tools made moving emails pretty easy. The interface is clean and professional, which helps when you’re writing work emails. During my job search, the address just blended in - exactly what you want. Spam filtering works well, and you get web access plus mobile apps included.
Yahoo Mail could work well for you, despite what people say. You get 1TB of storage free - way more than you’ll need. @yahoo.com addresses are still fine in professional settings. I’ve used mine for business for 5 years and never had employers or clients question it. The interface got much better, and their migration tool handled my old account transfer smoothly. Since you already mentioned considering Yahoo, you’re comfortable with the brand anyway.
honestly, gmail is prob the best bet. it’s free and looks super prof, plus the 15GB of storage should cover u. migrating ur 9GB should be smooth sailing, and there’s def room to expand later. used it for ages, no complaints here!
