Emails from Google Sheets form submission automatically marked as read in Airmail client

I created a contact form that submits information into Google Sheets and sends email alerts to my inbox. It works perfectly when I view the emails through Gmail in my web browser. However, when I check my inbox using Airmail, these email alerts appear as already read, which is quite annoying since I might overlook essential submissions. I’m not very knowledgeable about email configurations and can’t figure out why this occurs only with Airmail and not with Gmail’s online version. Although the emails originate from the same Google service, they act differently based on how I view them. Has anyone else faced a similar problem where emails from Google show up as read on some clients but not others? I prefer Airmail, so I don’t want to switch back to Gmail just because of this issue.

sounds like a sync timing issue tbh. airmail might be pulling emails after gmail already processed them as “seen” on googles servers. try disabling push notifications in airmail and set it to manual refresh instead - worked for me with similar automated emails from other services

The situation you’ve described is commonly encountered due to how email clients handle IMAP synchronization. Airmail may see certain automatic notifications from Google as already read due to their specific IMAP flags. A practical workaround is to set up a filter in Gmail that directs these form submission emails into a dedicated folder and marks them as important. This way, even if they appear read in Airmail, you can easily find them by checking the filter’s folder. By organizing emails this way, you can avoid missing any crucial submissions.

It appears that your issue is related to how Airmail interprets email read status compared to Gmail. This behavior can occur as Airmail may mark messages as read once they are synced, especially if they are processed as automated notifications. To troubleshoot, consider going into your Airmail settings to see if adjusting the synchronization settings helps; sometimes, modifying how often Airmail checks for new messages can alleviate these issues. You might also try removing and re-adding your Gmail account in Airmail to refresh the connection, which can resolve these inconsistencies.
