Expanding app connectivity: API, automation tools, and beyond?

Hey everyone,

I’m thinking about adding more ways to connect our time tracking app with other software. Right now, you can get your data out manually or use some basic scripting. But that’s not super easy for everyone.

What if we had a web API? You could do cool stuff like:

  • Bring in tasks from your project management tool
  • Send time reports to your billing system

We might also hook up with Zapier. That’d let you link our app to loads of other tools without needing to code.

I’m curious:

  • What apps do you want to connect with?
  • How would you use these connections?
  • Any must-have features?

If you’re really into this idea, I’d love to work with a few of you to test it out. We’d make sure it’s useful for everyone, not just a few people.

Let me know what you think! Your input helps make the app better for all of us.

An API would be a game-changer for our workflow. We’ve been looking to streamline our process by connecting time tracking directly to our project management system (Jira). This would allow for real-time updates and more accurate reporting. Another crucial integration for us would be with our accounting software (QuickBooks) to automate invoicing based on tracked time. As for must-have features, robust authentication and rate limiting are essential for security. Also, comprehensive documentation would be invaluable for our dev team. I’d suggest prioritizing these core integrations before expanding to platforms like Zapier.

sounds cool, i’d like slack integration and maybe gooogle calender too. zapier seems a smart route for non-tech folks. i’d be down to help test a beta version if need be!

As someone who’s been using time tracking software for years, I can say that API integration would be a massive improvement. In my experience, the ability to connect with project management tools like Asana or Trello is crucial. It saves so much time and reduces errors when you can automatically sync tasks and time entries.

One feature I’d love to see is the ability to create custom workflows. For instance, I often need to generate reports for different clients with specific formatting. If I could set up automated reports that pull data from the time tracking app and format it according to each client’s preferences, it would be a huge time-saver.

Regarding Zapier, while it’s user-friendly, I’ve found that direct integrations often provide more robust functionality. Perhaps consider offering both options to cater to different user needs and technical abilities.

I’d be happy to participate in any beta testing. It’s always exciting to see how new features can improve productivity in real-world scenarios.
