Facebook Lead Ads integration with Zapier fails to pass real data when workflow is enabled

I set up an automated workflow to send new Facebook leads directly to our CRM system. During the testing phase, everything worked perfectly and all the lead data transferred correctly.

However, after I turned on the automation, something weird started happening. The trigger isn’t sending the actual lead information anymore. Instead of getting real email addresses, I’m seeing placeholder text like “101262649__email” in the data.

This is really frustrating because the test runs showed everything working fine. Has anyone run into this issue before? I’m not sure if this is a Facebook API problem or something with the integration itself.

Any help would be appreciated!

sounds like a webhook problem. facebook automatically switches back to test mode when there’s connection issues. check your webhook settings in the developer console - it’s probably stuck on test data instead of live leads. happened to me twice last month. annoying but easy to fix once you spot it.

I encountered a similar issue not long ago with Facebook Lead Ads. It sounds like the integration is losing access to the lead data after the initial setup. This typically happens when permissions associated with your app get revoked or expire. During testing, you might have had valid access, but once the automation was activated, Facebook likely detected an issue and restricted access to prevent misuse. I suggest revisiting the Facebook Business Manager to ensure that your app has the correct permission settings for lead data. After adjusting the permissions, reconnect your integration in Zapier as well. Keep in mind that it may take some time for changes to propagate through Facebook’s systems.

This exact thing happened to me six months ago and drove me crazy for days. That placeholder text is Facebook masking your real lead data because there’s an auth issue. Here’s what fixed it for me: go back to Facebook App settings and completely regenerate the access token. My old token worked fine during testing but had some weird limitation that only showed up with live data. After regenerating, I had to fully disconnect and reconnect the Zapier integration - just refreshing the connection didn’t work. Also check if your Facebook page admin permissions changed recently. That can cause the same issue even when everything looks normal.
