G Suite Marketplace publishing blocked despite OAuth approval for Google Docs extension

I’m stuck with a frustrating publishing issue and need help

I built a Google Docs extension that works perfectly, but I can’t get it live on the G Suite Marketplace. This is really confusing because I made a similar Google Sheets extension back in 2014 that published without any problems.

What I’ve already done:

  • Google’s OAuth team reviewed and approved all the permissions my extension needs
  • I filled out every required field in the marketplace submission form
  • I uploaded all the screenshots they want
  • I spent weeks going back and forth with Google support

The problem:
Even after completing everything, the Publish button stays grayed out and won’t activate. I have no idea what’s missing or wrong.

Additional info:
I also submitted this extension to Chrome Web Store and that got approved fine. I don’t think the two stores are related but wanted to mention it.

Has anyone run into this before? I’m completely stuck and Google support hasn’t been able to help me figure out what’s blocking the submission.

Thanks for any suggestions!

check if your app verification status changed since 2014 - google tightened requirements a lot. i had the same greyed button issue and it turned out my app needed reverification even tho oauth was approved. also make sure your dev account has the marketplace agreement signed, sometimes it expires without notice. try switching to a different google account temporarily to see if it’s account-specific.

I encountered a similar issue with my Gmail Chrome extension a couple of years back. The grayed-out publish button typically indicates a backend validation issue that may not be apparent in the user interface. In my case, the OAuth approval was not syncing properly between the console and the marketplace backend. Even when it indicated completion, there was often a delay or disconnect. To resolve this, you should check your Google Cloud Console and ensure the marketplace API is explicitly enabled. Also, verify that your OAuth client ID matches exactly what was approved, as hidden characters can cause silent validation failures. The marketplace publishing process tends to be more prone to bugs compared to the Chrome Web Store, which could explain why one succeeded while the other did not.

Sounds like a cache or session issue - I’ve hit this multiple times publishing workspace add-ons. The marketplace gets stuck in some weird state even when everything looks right. Here’s what fixed it for me: clear all browser data for Google domains, log out of every Google account, then start over. The publishing interface loves hanging onto old validation states that break the button. Also check your manifest version matches what you sent for OAuth review - mismatches cause silent failures. Try incognito or a different browser to see if it’s browser-specific caching. Since Chrome Web Store approved it fine, your code’s solid. This is just marketplace weirdness.
