How do I insert subscript or superscript formatting in a Notion block?

I recently transitioned to using Notion as my main note-taking tool, having moved from another application because of Notion’s overall convenience. However, one feature that is missing for me is the ability to format text as subscript or superscript. I attempted to modify a text block for this purpose, but the formatting did not appear as expected. I’m looking for advice or a workaround that could enable this text formatting option within Notion. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I encountered the same limitation while working on various projects with Notion. After trying to modify the text block directly, I discovered that the native support for subscript or superscript formatting isn’t available. As a workaround, I started using inline equations to mimic the superscript effect, although this solution isn’t ideal for large amounts of text. For subscripts, I experimented with reusable Unicode formatting, but it proves cumbersome. Over time, these methods have become part of my routine, yet I continually hope for more direct formatting support from Notion in the future.

I have experimented with various methods to work around this limitation in Notion. One technique is to use inline LaTeX to create what appears to be superscript formatting. While the process involves a bit of a learning curve because it requires escaping characters in LaTeX, it does offer flexibility once familiar. For subscripts, I have tried inserting Unicode characters manually, though it isn’t perfect for longer texts. My experience leads me to recommend device-specific workarounds until Notion provides a native solution. I believe the current approach, even if clunky, is workable for focused, formula-based notes.
