Hey everyone,
I need some advice about connecting different project management tools. My team has been using TFS 2008 for a while now. It’s been great for tracking bugs and managing our tests. But guess what? The higher-ups have decided we need to switch to Jira and Zephyr.
I’m not thrilled about this change. TFS has been working fine for us. But you know how it goes - sometimes management likes to shake things up even when everything’s running smoothly.
So here’s my question: Does anyone know if there are ways to keep our TFS data in sync with these new tools? We’re talking about a local TFS setup and cloud-based Jira and Zephyr. Any suggestions for plugins or other solutions would be super helpful.
Thanks in advance for any tips!
hey there, i’ve dealt with similar stuff before. there’s this tool called OpsHub Integration Manager that can sync TFS with Jira. for Zephyr, you can use its Jira integration once you’ve got TFS and Jira talking. just be ready for some tricky setup with field mapping and all that. good luck with the switch!
I’ve been through a similar transition, and it’s definitely doable to sync TFS with Jira and Zephyr. We used OpsHub Integration Manager, which worked pretty well for us. It allowed us to keep our TFS data in sync with Jira, and then we used Zephyr’s integration with Jira to handle the test management side of things.
The setup wasn’t exactly straightforward, though. We had to spend some time mapping fields and workflows to make sure everything translated correctly between the systems. And there were a few hiccups with custom fields that required some extra attention.
One thing I’d recommend is to start with a small subset of data for testing before going all-in. This helped us catch and fix issues early on. Also, make sure you have a good backup of your TFS data before starting the sync process. Better safe than sorry!
It’s a bit of work upfront, but once it’s set up, it can save a lot of manual data entry and keep everything in sync across platforms. Good luck with the transition!
Syncing TFS with Jira and Zephyr is certainly possible, but it does require some effort. From my experience, OpsHub Integration Manager is a solid choice for this task. It handles the TFS to Jira sync well, and then you can leverage Zephyr’s built-in Jira integration for test management.
Keep in mind that field mapping and workflow alignment between systems can be tricky. You’ll need to dedicate time to configure these properly. Also, consider starting with a small data set to test the integration before going full scale.
One thing to watch out for is custom fields - they often need special attention during the sync setup. And don’t forget to back up your TFS data before starting any major sync operations.
While it’s a bit of work initially, once set up, it can significantly reduce manual data entry and keep your systems in sync. Good luck with your transition!
