Is it usual for a Shopify store owner to use 37 apps?

Recently, I spoke with a Shopify store owner who mentioned that it’s common for shops to run around 37 apps. As I’m in the early stages of launching my own store, I’m eager to understand the potential costs involved with using that many apps to help plan my pricing strategy. Is it a fact that a single store requires that many applications? How many do you have on your store, and what are the typical monthly expenses for maintaining them?

That number’s way too high from what I’ve seen across different store sizes. I’ve run multiple stores for four years now, and even large operations rarely use more than 25 apps. Most successful stores work great with just 15-18 apps max. That 37 figure probably includes dead apps or trials they forgot to remove from their dashboard. Cost-wise, you’re looking at $400-600 monthly for that many active subscriptions - that’s brutal overhead for most businesses. I’d focus on core stuff first: payment processing, basic analytics, email marketing, and customer support. That’ll run you around $150-200 monthly for a growing store. Too many store owners think more apps = better performance, but it’s the opposite. You get compatibility issues and slow loading times that tank your conversion rates.

Based on my experience managing a mid-sized Shopify store for three years, I find that 37 apps is excessively high. Currently, I rely on 12-15 apps that adequately support my needs, including inventory management, email marketing, reviews, analytics, and customer service, costing me approximately $180-220 monthly, depending on usage.

Initially, I made the mistake of installing numerous apps, thinking it would enhance my store’s functionality. This led to conflicts between apps and significantly slowed down my site. Many successful stores I encounter typically operate with 10-20 apps. It’s crucial to identify your essential needs before adding applications. Start with a minimal approach and only integrate additional tools as necessary.

37 apps sounds insane to me. I’ve been running my store for 2 years and only use 8-10 apps total. Most are free or under $20/month each. Whoever told you that either has a massive store or installs everything they see lol
