Just bringing this up again since the last discussion about this got removed.
I wanted to remind everyone that Notion announced they would add offline mode support way back in 2017. That was seven whole years ago and we’re still stuck needing internet connection for everything. It’s pretty frustrating when you’re traveling or have spotty wifi and can’t access your notes or databases.
I know other productivity apps have managed to figure out offline sync, so I’m wondering why this is taking so long. Has anyone heard any recent updates about when we might actually get this feature? It would make such a huge difference for people who work remotely or travel frequently.
What are your thoughts on this? Are you also waiting for offline mode or have you found good workarounds?
Honestly, I think Notion’s given up on offline mode. They’ve made their money without it, so why start now? I’ve switched to Apple Notes for quick stuff when I’m offline, then copy everything over later. Not perfect, but at least I can write when my wifi dies.
Notion’s offline issues drove me to hybrid workflows years ago. I duplicate critical project notes in a simple markdown editor that works offline, then sync back to Notion when I’m connected. Not perfect, but it saved my ass on a cross-country flight when I had to prep presentations. The tech challenge is their block-based architecture and real-time collaboration - conflict resolution for offline edits while keeping data integrity across their database system is genuinely complex. Still, seven years is ridiculous for a feature most people consider essential for serious productivity work.
The offline thing gets even worse when you see what Notion charges for premium plans. I jumped ship to Obsidian two years ago because of this exact issue. I still use Notion for team stuff, but all my personal notes go into apps that actually work offline. What kills me is they keep rolling out AI features and fancy integrations while completely ignoring this basic functionality people have begged for since day one. I don’t think they’ll ever fix it - their whole business model depends on keeping us locked into their servers instead of giving us real offline access.
