Keyboard shortcut for fixing spelling mistakes in Google Docs on Mac

I’m looking for a faster way to fix spelling errors in Google Docs without using my mouse. Right now I have to hover over the red underlined word, right click it, and then pick the suggested correction from the menu. This process is really slow when I’m typing fast and want to keep my hands on the keyboard.

Is there a keyboard combination that lets me accept Google’s spelling suggestions directly? I’m using a MacBook and would love to speed up my editing workflow. Any tips or alternative methods would be helpful too.

I dealt with this for months before finding a workaround that saves me tons of time. Put your cursor on the misspelled word and hit Cmd+Shift+Y to open the research panel, then quickly press Escape - the spell check suggestions pop up right where you’re typing. Not perfect but way better than constantly grabbing the mouse. I also use Cmd+Option+F5 which pulls up an accessibility menu with spelling options. Takes some getting used to, but once you learn to navigate with arrow keys and Enter, it’s totally worth it.

theres a quicker way - hit Cmd+; on any misspelled word for instant suggestions. way faster than right-clicking! also turn on smart autocorrect in system preferences - it’ll catch most typos as you type.

Google Docs doesn’t have a direct keyboard shortcut for accepting spelling suggestions. However, you can use Cmd+Option+X to open the spell checker, navigate through errors using the arrow keys, and press Enter to accept the suggested corrections. While this method isn’t flawless, it does help maintain keyboard use. Additionally, consider enabling spell check in System Preferences > Keyboard > Text for an autocorrect feature that works across all applications, including Google Docs.
