Keyboard shortcut to find components and instances in Figma

I’m working on a pretty complex Figma project with tons of components and instances scattered around. Does anyone know if there’s a keyboard shortcut to quickly search for specific components or objects? I’ve been clicking through menus trying to find some kind of search tool but haven’t had any luck so far.

Maybe I’m missing something obvious here. I know other design tools have this feature built in. It would save me so much time when I need to locate particular elements in my design files.

Has anyone figured out a way to do this efficiently? Any tips would be super helpful!

The Assets panel saved me so much time with component hunting. Just click it in the left sidebar and all your components show up organized. Click any component and it highlights every instance across your project - super helpful for tracking where things are used. Found this by accident during a design system overhaul and it made auditing components way easier. The highlighting shows exactly which frames have the component you need, especially with multi-page files.

Here’s another trick that works great: use the selection filter in the toolbar. Hit Ctrl+A to select everything, then click the filter icon up top. You can filter for just component instances, which is super handy when you need to update multiple instances of the same component across different frames. Combine this with the search function others mentioned and you’re golden. I stumbled on this during a redesign with hundreds of card components - saved me hours of digging through artboards.

Figma’s search function is super underrated. Hit Ctrl+F (Cmd+F on Mac) and you get this universal search that finds everything - layer names, components, text, styles, the works. Results pop up in a panel and you just click to jump straight to whatever you need. The best part? It searches component instances too. Need to find every button in your design? Just type the component name and boom - there’s every single one. I’ve used this for months now and it’s a game-changer for big projects. Stays fast even with massive files.

ohh, and there’s also the layers panel on the left - just hit that search icon at the top and you can filter through everything. way faster than scrolling thru hundread of layers manually. perfect for finding buried components.
