Looking for a way to make Title properties dynamic like formulas in other tools

Hey everyone! I’ve been using Notion for a while now and I really love it. But there’s one thing that’s been bugging me. I wish we could use formulas in Title properties like we can in some other database tools. It would be super helpful for keeping things organized and up to date automatically.

I know Notion doesn’t have this feature yet but I’ve found a workaround that’s pretty smooth. Has anyone else come up with clever ways to make their Title properties more dynamic? I’d love to hear your ideas and tips for managing this. Maybe we can share some creative solutions while we wait for Notion to add this feature (fingers crossed!).

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think Notion will ever add formula support for Title properties? Let me know what you think!

I’ve been wrestling with this same issue, and I totally get your frustration. After some trial and error, I found a workaround that’s been pretty effective for me. I use a formula property right next to the title, which automatically generates the dynamic text I need. Then, I hide the original title column in my views and use the formula column as my main reference point.

It’s not perfect, but it’s helped streamline my workflow significantly. One downside is that you can’t directly click into the formula field to edit it like a regular title. But for most of my use cases, this method has been a game-changer.

As for Notion adding formula support to titles directly, I’m not holding my breath. They seem to prioritize other features. But who knows? Maybe if enough of us keep requesting it, they’ll eventually implement it. In the meantime, these workarounds will have to do.

I’ve encountered this limitation as well, and it can be quite frustrating. One approach I’ve found useful is to create a template button that populates the title field based on other properties. This way, you can quickly generate dynamic titles without relying on formulas directly.

For instance, if you’re managing projects, you could set up a template that combines the project type, client name, and date into the title. It’s not automatic, but it saves time and ensures consistency.

Another trick is to use the ‘Created time’ property creatively. You can format it to display useful information that updates automatically, then place it next to your static title for quick reference.

While these aren’t perfect solutions, they’ve helped me maintain more dynamic and informative databases. Let’s hope Notion considers adding formula support for titles in the future.

yo, i feel ur pain! i’ve been using a sneaky trick - creating a rollup property that grabs the formula result from a linked db. it’s not perfect, but it gets the job done. kinda wish notion would just add this already, but for now we gotta get creative lol. anyone else got some cool hacks?
