Looking for self-hosted whiteboard software to replace Miro

I need help finding a good self-hosted solution that can work like Miro. My colleague wants me to set up something they can use instead of paying for Miro subscriptions. They mainly create mind maps and do project planning work. They also make visual storyboards for their projects.

The tricky part is that they work with other people on these boards. They need real-time collaboration where multiple users can edit at the same time. Most apps I found handle basic drawing and text well but I’m not sure which ones have solid teamwork features.

I’m running everything on OpenMediaVault with Caddy as my reverse proxy. Would be awesome if there was a way to import their existing Miro boards but I doubt that exists. Any recommendations for apps that work well for team collaboration?

have you tried Excalidraw? it works really well in Docker for real-time collab. while it looks simpler than Miro, it’s great for mind maps n projects. just a heads up tho, you’ll have to remake any old boards since it doesn’t import.
