At the same time, I heard this website that showed how much artists were getting paid got shut down. Seems fishy, right?

This situation doesn’t surprise me, unfortunately. The music industry has always been about maximizing profits, often at the expense of artists. Streaming platforms have revolutionized how we consume music, but they’ve also created a new power dynamic. The platform owners reap massive rewards while many artists struggle to make ends meet.
The closure of the payout transparency site is concerning. It suggests these companies prefer to operate in secrecy, which rarely benefits the creators or consumers. Without transparency, it’s harder for artists to negotiate fair compensation or for listeners to make informed choices about where their money goes.
I doubt this will significantly change listening habits in the short term, but it might push more artists to explore alternative distribution methods or pressure for industry reform.
