My excessive use might have contributed to the end of unlimited Google Drive storage

I might have contributed to Google stopping unlimited Drive storage due to my heavy usage. Did anyone else overload their account? What are your thoughts?

I’ve been in a similar boat. My usage wasn’t astronomical, but I definitely pushed the boundaries of what Google probably intended with their ‘unlimited’ offer. Looking back, it’s not surprising they had to make changes. These tech giants often start with generous offerings to attract users, then scale back once they’ve got a solid user base. It’s a bit of a wake-up call for all of us to be more mindful of our digital footprint and storage habits.

Since the change, I’ve been exploring a mix of local storage solutions and spreading my data across multiple cloud services. It’s more work, but it feels more secure in the long run. Anyone else finding creative ways to manage their data post-Google Drive unlimited era?

yeah, same here mate. i was pushin like 50TB+ on my uni account before they pulled the plug. kinda feel guilty but hey, they offered unlimited right? :man_shrugging: guess we all got a bit greedy haha. wonder how many others maxed it out?

I can relate to your situation. While I didn’t push the limits quite as far, I certainly took advantage of the unlimited storage. In retrospect, it’s clear that such generous offerings were unsustainable for Google in the long run. The shift away from unlimited plans seems to be an industry-wide trend now. It’s a reminder that we should always have backup strategies and not rely too heavily on any single cloud service, no matter how attractive their initial offerings may be. Have you found any good alternatives for managing large amounts of data since the change?
