PAW/RapidAPI application fails to launch on Apple Silicon Mac running Monterey 12.6.2

Problem Description

Since I upgraded my M1 MacBook to macOS Monterey 12.6.2, I’ve been unable to get the PAW (RapidAPI client) to open. It simply won’t start when I click on it.

What I’ve Tried

I also checked this app on a colleague’s Mac that is running Monterey 12.6.1, and it works without any issues. This leads me to believe that the problem is tied to the 12.6.2 update.

Questions

  • Has anyone else faced this problem with API testing applications after updating to this version of macOS?
  • What steps can I take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue?
  • Are there any known compatibility concerns with tools in this version of macOS?

ugh, 12.6.2’s been breaking tons of apps. try launching paw from terminal - just drag the app in and hit enter. you’ll see the actual error instead of it failing silently. if that doesn’t help, check activity monitor while opening it to see if the process starts then crashes right away.

Sounds like a Rosetta 2 issue from the 12.6.2 update. I hit the same thing with another dev tool on my M2 MacBook Pro after that update - app just wouldn’t start, no error messages. First, run softwareupdate --install-rosetta in Terminal. Even if you think Rosetta’s already there, 12.6.2 sometimes breaks the translation layer. Next, find PAW in Applications, right-click → Get Info, and see if “Open using Rosetta” shows up. If it does, enable it and try launching again. Clearing the app cache also worked for me. Go to ~/Library/Caches, delete any PAW or RapidAPI folders, restart your Mac, then try launching again.

I experienced a similar problem with PAW after upgrading to macOS Monterey 12.6.2 on my M1 Mac. It seems like the update reset various app permissions, including those for PAW. To resolve this, I recommend going to System Preferences, then Security & Privacy, and checking the Privacy tab to ensure PAW is granted Full Disk Access and has the appropriate file permissions. If that doesn’t work, try right-clicking on the app and selecting ‘Open’, which can sometimes bypass security restrictions. If issues persist, consider uninstalling PAW completely with a cleaning tool and reinstalling it from the Mac App Store, as the latest OS update appears to affect many third-party applications’ security settings.
