I’ve been using a GitHub repository on my laptop for a while and have made multiple updates. Now that I have a desktop, I want to access the same repository on both devices.
I downloaded GitHub Desktop on my new computer and attempted to clone the repository, entering my username and password as required. However, I encountered a couple of significant issues:
The cloned repository seems to be an outdated version, missing all my recent changes.
When I try to sync the updates, they don’t reflect on the live site.
I don’t have much experience with GitHub and mainly use it for hosting a basic site, so I’m likely overlooking something. Can someone help me figure out what might have gone wrong?
It appears that your recent commits may not have been pushed to the GitHub repository from your laptop. Local changes only exist on the device where you created them until you specifically push them to GitHub. Use GitHub Desktop or the command git status in your terminal to check for any unpushed commits. After pushing these changes, you should be able to clone or pull the updated repository on your desktop. Regarding the live site not updating, verify that your hosting service is set to automatically deploy when you update the repository.
It seems your local changes haven’t been pushed to GitHub yet. Until you do that, they won’t appear on your other computer. I recommend checking the history in GitHub Desktop on your laptop to see if there are unpushed commits. Once you’ve pushed those, try cloning the repository again on your desktop. For the live site not reflecting updates, many hosting platforms experience brief delays before deploying changes, so patience may be required. Also, ensure your deployment settings are correct and point to the right branch.
