Publishing a browser automation on a marketplace—is this actually a viable business or just hype?

I have a few solid browser automation workflows that handle common tasks well. A login + data extraction flow. A form submission + confirmation checker. Someone suggested I publish these on a marketplace so other teams could use them. The pitch is that you create it once and potentially generate ongoing revenue.

But I’m genuinely unsure if there’s a market. Who’s actually buying pre-built automation templates? Is this a real revenue stream or am I looking at shipping something that gets zero downloads? And realistically, how much support would I have to provide if someone does use my template but it breaks on their specific site?

For the people here who’ve either tried selling templates or bought them, what’s your actual experience? Is this worth the effort?

The marketplace is real and there’s genuine demand, but it’s not passive income. You’re right to think about support.

What actually sells are templates that solve specific, repeatable problems. Generic login workflows are less valuable than something like “automated lead extraction from LinkedIn search results” or “daily pricing monitor for competitor websites.” Specificity matters because buyers are looking for solutions to concrete problems, not starting points.

Revenue-wise, don’t expect life-changing money, but teams do use marketplace templates to save development time. You’ll handle some support questions, but if your template is well-documented and covers the main use case, maintenance is manageable.

The better angle is building reputation. If you publish solid templates, you become known in the community. That opens doors to consulting, custom automation work, and partnerships. The template sales themselves might be modest, but the visibility pays off.
