🎨 Seeking a Figma Coach or Design Partner – Really Want to Master This Tool

Hi there!

I’m really committed to mastering Figma and becoming skilled at user interface and experience design. I don’t want to just learn how to make things look nice. I want to understand the deeper stuff like proper layouts, user flows, information architecture, accessibility, and visual identity.

I’m completely new to Figma but I’m motivated to learn. I study Computer Science and have always loved creative work, so I want to:

  • Master Figma basics - interface, design systems, responsive layouts, etc.
  • Create practice projects and develop a solid design portfolio
  • Get constructive criticism to help me grow instead of just guessing what works
  • Later convert my designs into actual web apps using code (I have programming help available)

What I’m looking for:
:point_right: Someone experienced with Figma who can mentor me - maybe just touch base once a week, assign small challenges, or help when I hit roadblocks.

I promise to do the heavy lifting. I just don’t want to get lost jumping between random YouTube videos without any clear path forward.

If you’re a professional designer, teacher, or someone who knows what it feels like to start from zero - I’d really appreciate connecting. Even occasional advice or pointing me toward good resources would help so much :blue_heart:

Feel free to message me directly or comment below. Let’s create something cool together :rocket:

What helped me when I was starting out with Figma was actually doing the daily UI challenges while following along with structured courses. The combination of having a framework to follow plus regular practice made everything click much faster than random tutorials. I’d recommend checking out some of the more comprehensive Figma courses on platforms like Coursera or Udemy that cover design systems from the ground up. Since you mentioned wanting to understand the deeper concepts like information architecture, pairing your Figma learning with UX research fundamentals will make your designs much stronger. The Adobe XD to Figma migration resources are also surprisingly good for understanding proper component structure even if you haven’t used XD before.

i totally get where you’re coming from! just jumping into a project is a great way to learn. trial and error helps you grasp things faster. don’t stress too much about finding a mentor right away, focus on being consistent and you’ll improve in no time!
