Hey folks, I’m pretty new to the Shopify world and launched my store about a week ago. I’m completely lost when it comes to understanding metrics like impressions and conversion rates. My advertising efforts just aren’t translating into sales and I can’t figure out if the issue is with my product selection or my marketing strategy. Over the past three days, I’ve been running TikTok ads that generated around 2000 visitors from about 420k impressions, but I haven’t made a single sale yet. I did have 3 people who started the checkout process but didn’t complete it. I’m really confused about what might be going wrong with my store or approach. Would love some guidance from experienced sellers!
The checkout abandonment tells you everything - people want to buy but something’s killing the deal at the last second. Same thing happened to me when I started. Turned out I was hiding shipping costs until checkout, which instantly murdered my conversions. Check your checkout flow for nasty surprises: hidden fees, overly complicated forms, missing payment options. Also make sure your site loads fast on mobile since most TikTok traffic is mobile. You’re getting people to checkout with 0% conversion rate, which means you’re actually close to fixing this. Focus on checkout experience first - don’t mess with ads or products yet.
Those numbers aren’t terrible for a brand new store. 0.48% CTR from TikTok is pretty standard, and three people hitting checkout means your product’s got appeal. The real issue is probably trust signals on your site. When I launched my first store, I had similar traffic with zero sales until I realized my site looked sketchy and too new. Add customer reviews (even if you start with supplier samples), include clear return policies, and make sure your contact info is visible. Also double-check your pricing against competitors - TikTok users are price-sensitive and will shop around before buying. People reaching checkout but not converting means they’re getting cold feet about trusting your brand, not rejecting the product.
