Should I leave my Google job for an OpenAI position?

I recently started working as a software engineer at Google after graduating. It’s been less than three months since I joined the company. However, I just got an offer from OpenAI for a similar software engineering role.

I’m really torn about what to do here. On one hand, Google is an amazing company with great benefits and job security. On the other hand, OpenAI seems like it could be an incredible opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI technology.

Has anyone been in a similar situation before? What factors should I consider when making this decision? I’m worried about burning bridges if I leave Google so early, but I also don’t want to miss out on what could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Any advice would be really helpful!

honestly, i’d go for the OpenAI offer. google’s stable but openAI is where the future’s at. you’re just starting out, so it’s a good time to take risks. worst case, you’ve got experience in AI to fall back on if you wanna go back to big tech.

This comes down to your career goals and how much risk you can handle. I’ve worked at both big tech companies and smaller cutting-edge ones - leaving after three months won’t kill your career, especially early on. Tech moves fast and people get it when good opportunities come up. But look at the whole package, not just salary. Factor in equity, benefits, and work-life balance. OpenAI’s got exciting tech but expect more volatility and pressure. Google gives you structure, mentorship, and clear paths up the ladder. Ask yourself what gets you excited: being part of a smooth operation with established processes, or working on potentially groundbreaking stuff that might not pan out? Both can work out great, just make sure you’re choosing what actually interests you instead of getting caught up in AI hype.
