I have been relying on external email services for sending messages from my applications for several years now. These emails were mainly for user authentication like login codes and account confirmations. Recently I made the decision to move away from third party providers completely.
I decided to set up my own mail server instead of paying for external services. After researching different options, I found a good self-hosted solution that works well for my needs. I had previously tested another platform but ran into issues with the interface and configuration process.
The installation went smoothly on my existing VPS that I have been using for a long time. Before setting everything up, I made sure to check that the server IP address had a clean sending reputation. So far the system has successfully processed thousands of outgoing emails and I am very satisfied with the performance. The transition away from paid email services has been worth it.
