Switching from Trello to Jira - Need advice

Hello everyone,

Our landscaping company has been using Trello for project management for about 3 years now. We create cards for each project and move them through different stages as work progresses. One person manages all the boards and cards.

Trello is missing some features we really need, and I’m wondering if Jira can handle these requirements:

Main issue we need solved:

  • Assign team members to specific tasks so they only see their assigned work, not everything else.

We tried different permission settings and add-ons in Trello, but nothing works the way we want.

Other features we need Jira to support:

  • Team members should be able to upload files, images, and complete task checklists.
  • Task deadlines need to sync with Outlook calendar.
  • Mobile app should be user-friendly.

Has anyone made a similar transition? Would love to hear your thoughts before we make the switch.

Thanks!

We switched from Trello to Jira about eight months ago and it fixed exactly what you’re dealing with. Jira’s permission system lets you filter tasks so workers only see what’s assigned to them - no more confusion from everyone seeing everything. File uploads work great and the checklist feature beats Trello’s hands down. Our IT guy got Outlook integration working in about an hour and it’s been solid since. Fair warning though - Jira can feel overwhelming at first since it’s got way more features than Trello’s simple setup. We spent some time hiding unnecessary options for regular users so they only see what they actually need. The mobile app handles basics like status updates and photo uploads well, but it’s not as smooth as Trello’s mobile version.

jira will fix ur assignment problems - we switched from trello for the same reason. the permissions let u control exactly what each person sees. calendar sync works but expect some setup time for your admin. mobile app’s clunky compared to trello but handles the basics fine.

Transitioning from Trello to Jira has been beneficial for us as well. Jira’s ability to tailor task assignments to individual team members is invaluable, as it minimizes distractions from irrelevant tasks. The platform supports file uploads and checklists effectively, though the user interface requires some adjustment coming from Trello. We found that syncing task deadlines with Outlook was seamless, and the mobile app has improved greatly, offering a decent user experience. However, it’s essential to prepare your team for the initial learning curve due to the system’s complexity, which took us about two weeks to navigate effectively. Overall, the enhanced reporting capabilities have significantly improved our project management.
