What happens when artificial intelligence eliminates millions of jobs?

This situation is completely different from past technological changes. It’s not like when computers replaced some manual tasks but people still had other work to do.

The problem now is that AI systems can work 24/7 without breaks, salaries, or benefits. They don’t get tired or need vacation time like human workers do.

I know AI technology still has limitations today, but look at what happened with automation in manufacturing and banking. Thousands of workers lost their jobs and only a small number of highly trained experts kept working in those fields.

If the same pattern happens across all industries, most available jobs will require advanced degrees or very specialized skills that are difficult to obtain.

How are ordinary people supposed to survive financially when this happens? What realistic options will be available for those who lose their jobs to artificial intelligence?

This won’t happen overnight - we’re talking decades, which gives us time to adjust. History shows us that new tech creates jobs nobody saw coming. Look at ATMs: everyone thought they’d kill bank teller jobs, but banks just opened more branches since costs dropped, and teller positions actually grew. The real issue is making sure workers can retrain during the shift. Governments and companies will have to pour money into workforce development programs. Many economists think AI will just handle the boring stuff while humans focus on creative work, people skills, and jobs that need emotional intelligence. Bottom line: we need to start preparing now instead of waiting for things to get desperate.
