When you're generating migration workflows from plain text descriptions, how much actually survives production?

Second attempt, we went granular with our input. Account mappings, field transformations, validation points, error scenarios—all in the plain text description. The generated workflow was way more complete because it had more to work with.

Now I think the plain-text approach actually works best for migrations because you’re already documenting the current process anyway. If you’re thorough in that documentation, the AI can generate something much closer to production-ready.

Still needs review and testing, obviously. But it’s not like you’re rewriting from scratch.

The single-department case is more reliable. The cross-department case still benefits from the generated structure, but requires more refinement of the hand-off points and priority logic.

AI workflow generation works best as an acceleration tool, not a replacement for process design. The output quality depends heavily on input quality and system sophistication.

For BPM migrations specifically, the value proposition is strong because migrations have predictable patterns. Data source → translate schema → integrate → validate → deploy. The AI understands this pattern and can apply it reasonably well.

The rework rate I’ve observed ranges from 20-40% of the generated workflow depending on domain complexity. More technical domains require less rework. Highly specialized business logic requires more.
