I need to build a plugin using the Jira 4.0 API but I’m having trouble finding the right JAR files. I’ve searched online extensively and can only locate JAR downloads for version 3.x and earlier. While I can find the 4.0 documentation, the actual JAR files seem to be missing from the usual download locations. Does anyone know where I can get the Jira 4.0 API JAR files for plugin development? Any help or working download links would be greatly appreciated.
Check the Atlassian SDK archives or just use Maven dependencies instead of hunting for standalone JARs. When I worked with legacy Jira versions, Maven Central usually had the artifacts even when direct downloads disappeared. Add the Jira API as a dependency in your pom.xml with the specific 4.0 version. But honestly, I’d strongly recommend reconsidering the version choice if you can. I spent way too much time maintaining plugins for older Jira versions and hit compatibility issues with modern dev tools constantly. The security vulnerabilities alone in 4.0 made it a nightmare for production. If you’re stuck with 4.0 because of client requirements, try extracting the JARs from a trial installation of Jira 4.0 - should still be available through Atlassian’s archived downloads.
hey tom, have u checked atlassian’s maven repo? sometimes the jar files rnt directly downloadable but they might be there. also, jira 4.0 is pretty old - maybe think about upgrading if u can?
The JAR files aren’t available as separate downloads - they’re bundled with the Jira installation. You’ll find them in the atlassian-jira/WEB-INF/lib directory. Look for jira-api-4.0.jar and jira-core-4.0.jar. If you don’t have a Jira 4.0 install, consider setting up the Atlassian Plugin SDK as it should contain what you need. Just a heads up - Jira 4.0 reached end-of-life years ago and is no longer receiving security patches, so if possible, aim for a supported version instead.
