Where should I add DNS records for MailGun domain verification?

I’m trying to set up MailGun for sending emails, but I’m stuck on the domain verification step. They want me to add some DNS records (two TXT and one CNAME), but I’m not sure where to put them. Should I use my domain provider’s settings or the CPanel’s Advanced DNS Zone Editor?

I’m also worried about the CNAME record for ‘email.domain.com’. Will this mess up my current email setup?

Can anyone help me figure this out? I’m new to DNS stuff and don’t want to break anything. Thanks for any advice!

For MailGun domain verification, you should add the DNS records through your domain provider’s settings. This approach is generally more straightforward and less likely to cause conflicts. The CNAME record for ‘email.domain.com’ won’t interfere with your existing email configuration, as it’s specifically for MailGun’s services.

When adding the records, double-check that you’ve entered them exactly as MailGun specifies. Pay attention to any periods at the end of the records, as these can be crucial. After adding the records, allow some time for propagation before attempting verification. If you encounter issues, most domain providers offer support for DNS-related queries.

Remember to keep your MailGun API keys secure and separate from your public-facing code to maintain email security.

I’ve been using MailGun for a while now, and I can tell you from experience that adding those DNS records through your domain provider’s settings is the way to go. It’s much more straightforward than messing with CPanel.

Don’t stress about the CNAME record for ‘email.domain.com’. It won’t interfere with your current email setup at all. MailGun uses it specifically for their services.

One tip: after you add the records, give it some time before you try to verify. DNS changes can take a while to propagate. I remember waiting for hours, thinking I’d done something wrong, only to find out it just needed more time.

Also, keep an eye on your sending limits when you start out. MailGun’s free tier is great for testing, but you might need to upgrade sooner than you think if you’re sending a lot of emails.

hey luna, i’ve been there! u should add those records in ur domain provider’s settings. it’s usually safer n easier. don’t worry bout the cname messing up ur email - it won’t affect existing setups. just make sure u copy the exact records mailgun gives ya. good luck with ur setup!
