I’m pretty new to WordPress development and I’m running into some frustrating issues. The theme I picked came with its own built-in editor system, but it doesn’t play nice with most of the popular plugins I want to use. Every time I try to add functionality or customize something, there are conflicts that break the layout or cause weird display problems. It’s making the whole site building process way more complicated than it should be. I’m thinking about switching to a different theme that’s more plugin-friendly, but I’m not sure what to look for. What theme and editor combination would you suggest for someone who wants flexibility and good plugin compatibility? I’d prefer something that doesn’t lock me into proprietary tools and plays well with the WordPress ecosystem.
I understand the challenges you’re facing with WordPress themes. A great combination for beginners is Astra paired with the Gutenberg editor. Astra is known for its lightweight performance and broad compatibility with plugins, which helps avoid the issues you’re experiencing. It allows for straightforward customization, making it easier for you to build your site as you gain more experience. This setup is widely recommended for its flexibility and user-friendly nature.
Twenty Twenty-Four has been great for me lately. I went through the same headaches early on - kept grabbing fancy themes with custom page builders that looked amazing but became nightmares when I needed basic functionality. Default WordPress themes are underrated. They’re built for core WordPress features without proprietary junk getting in the way. Twenty Twenty-Four’s surprisingly flexible once you’re comfortable with the block editor, and since the WordPress team maintains it, you won’t hit those weird compatibility issues that plague third-party themes with custom editors.
honestly, generatepress with gutenberg is probly your best bet. it’s super clean and doesn’t come with all the bloatware that causes those conflicts ur dealing with. i’ve been using it for ages and never had plugin issues like u described.
