Why did they take their music catalog down from Spotify

I noticed that a certain artist has completely removed all of their albums and songs from Spotify recently. Their whole music collection just vanished from the platform overnight. I used to listen to their songs regularly and now I can’t find any of them when I search.

Does anyone have an idea about what might lead musicians to remove their entire catalog like this? I’m interested in understanding the business reasons or disagreements that might cause such actions. Is it often related to money, creative control, or something else? Have you come across similar situations with other artists?

It’s really disappointing as a fan because I had quite a few of their songs in my playlists. Now I have to look for their music on different platforms or purchase it separately. I’m just curious if anyone can explain how these streaming agreements function and why artists sometimes decide to leave major services.

Artists often remove their music from Spotify due to several factors. One common reason is licensing disputes or disagreements over royalties with their labels. Additionally, if a distribution contract expires, artists might have to renegotiate terms, which can result in temporary withdrawals. This tactic is sometimes used for leverage in contract negotiations, as seen with artists like Taylor Swift. Legal issues such as sample clearances or publishing rights can also necessitate such actions. Typically, music is restored after matters are resolved, so it’s advisable to follow the artist on social media for updates.
