Why doesn't Google Docs support mouse-only copy and paste operations?

I’m really frustrated with this issue and hoping someone can explain it to me. Every time I try to copy and paste text in Google Docs using only my mouse, it just doesn’t work the way I expect it to. I have to use keyboard shortcuts instead.

This seems weird to me because most other programs let you right-click to copy and paste stuff. Is there some technical reason why Google Docs works differently? Maybe it’s a browser limitation or something with how web apps function?

I’m probably missing something obvious here, but I can’t figure out why this basic feature seems to be missing. Does anyone know if there’s a setting I need to enable or if this is just how Google Docs is designed to work?

This is usually a browser clipboard permission issue, not Google Docs. Browsers block websites from accessing your clipboard unless you give them permission - it’s a security thing. When you right-click in Google Docs, you’ll see the copy/paste options, but they won’t work if your browser hasn’t allowed clipboard access. Go to your browser’s site permissions for docs.google.com and turn on clipboard access. Some corporate networks or security software block these permissions completely, which explains why Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V still works but right-clicking doesn’t.

Google Docs does support mouse-only copy and paste, but it’s not always obvious. Right-click should show copy/paste options, but browsers sometimes block these for security reasons. Works better in Chrome than Firefox in my experience. If you’re not seeing the context menu, check your browser settings and enable clipboard permissions for docs.google.com. Clearing browser cache and cookies for Google Docs helped me too. Browser extensions can mess with right-click menus, so try disabling them temporarily to see if that fixes it.

i get ur concern! google docs should have the right-click options but it can differ by browser or settings. have u tried clearing ur cache? sometimes extensions can mess things up too, might wanna check those? hope this helps!
