Why is contact modification not available as a Zapier trigger?

I’m wondering why there’s no built-in trigger for when contacts get modified in the OpenPhone and Zapier connection. Right now I can only use webhooks from OpenPhone to catch contact changes, but that needs me to pay for Zapier premium. It would be really helpful if they added this as a standard trigger option since then I could use it with the free Zapier plan. Has anyone else noticed this missing feature? It seems like something that should be included with the other contact triggers they already have available.

I totally feel ya! It’s pretty frustrating. Using webhooks just for contact updates is such a hassle, especially on the free plan. Contact update triggers should be basic functionality. Definitely reach out to support though—more voices pushing for this might actually get them to change it!

Yeah, this gap totally caught me off guard when I started using OpenPhone with Zapier. I built a workaround using Zapier’s scheduled triggers with OpenPhone’s API - it pulls contact data every so often and checks it against a Google Sheet I keep. Not pretty, but it catches changes without webhooks. The tough part is contact modifications cover everything - phone numbers, tags, custom fields - and every platform handles this differently. OpenPhone probably hasn’t built this trigger because the dev work doesn’t match user demand yet. Just submit a feature request through their official channels instead of waiting for them to notice.

Yeah, this limitation’s been around forever unfortunately. Contact modification triggers are way more complex than simple create/delete events - they have to track field-level changes and figure out what counts as a ‘modification.’ That’s probably why most integrations just use webhooks instead. I’ve gotten around it by setting up automated exports from OpenPhone that run every few hours to catch contact changes. Not real-time, but it works. You could also hit up OpenPhone directly since they decide what triggers to give Zapier - they sometimes add features if enough people ask for them.
