I’m wondering if having Hubspot on my resume would make me more attractive to recruiters and other companies.
Currently, I work at a tech startup and have been there for a total of 5 years, which includes 3 years as an Account Executive, 1 year as an Account Manager, and 1 year as a Sales Development Representative.
I have a potential offer from Hubspot, but the base salary would remain at $74k. I plan to stay there for around 18 months and see if more recruiters will contact me afterwards.
On the other hand, I could continue my search for a startup position that offers a base salary of about $90k.
At the moment, I am in the education technology field, and it’s been challenging to transition to different industries. This role at Hubspot could be the opportunity I need to broaden my career options.
HubSpot’s brand name alone makes this worth it. I did something similar three years ago - left a smaller company for a well-known SaaS platform and took a $12k pay cut. Two years later, I had multiple offers coming in and landed a role with a 40% bump. HubSpot carries serious weight with hiring managers everywhere. The SMB experience will show you can handle volume and different client types, which helps when you go after enterprise roles later. Since you’re struggling to get out of edtech, this could be your bridge. Taking the temporary hit usually pays off big when you look at how much faster your career moves afterward.
HubSpot’s reputation in the industry is strong and will likely catch the attention of recruiters. Their comprehensive sales training equips you with transferable skills applicable to various sectors. While the immediate salary might not match your other offers, the long-term benefits of brand recognition and expanding your professional network could outweigh this. If you aim to transition from edtech, dedicating 18 months to a role at HubSpot could significantly enhance your career prospects compared to a higher salary at a startup.
