Advice needed: Tracking Google Ads conversions through Calendly and Zapier

Hey everyone,

I’m having trouble setting up a conversion tracking system for my Google Ads campaigns. Here’s what I’m trying to do:

  1. Run Google Ads that send people to my landing page
  2. Use Calendly for booking appointments
  3. Connect Calendly to Google Ads through Zapier to track conversions

The main issue is I can’t figure out how to keep the gclid (Google Click ID) throughout this process. I need it to go from the landing page URL all the way through Calendly and Zapier back to Google Ads.

I’ve looked into Calendly’s UTM tracking and thought about adding custom questions, but nothing seems to work smoothly. Does anyone know how to make this happen?

If you’ve done something like this before, I’d love to hear how you did it. Any tips or tricks would be super helpful!

Thanks!

I’ve dealt with a similar setup before, and it can be tricky. One solution that worked for me was using a combination of URL parameters and hidden fields in Calendly. First, ensure your landing page passes the gclid to Calendly through the URL. Then, in Calendly, create a hidden field that captures URL parameters. This way, when someone books an appointment, the gclid is stored with their booking data. In Zapier, you can then set up a zap that pulls this information from the Calendly booking and sends it to Google Ads as a conversion. It takes some initial setup, but once it’s running, it’s pretty seamless. Just make sure to test thoroughly to ensure the data flows correctly at each step.

I’ve tackled this issue in my own campaigns, and it’s definitely a challenge. One approach that’s worked well for me is using a custom landing page builder like Unbounce or Instapage. These platforms allow you to create landing pages that automatically capture and pass along the gclid.

From there, you can use their native integrations with Calendly (or sometimes custom code) to ensure the gclid is included in the booking data. Then, set up a Zapier workflow that pulls this info from Calendly and pushes it to Google Ads as a conversion.

It’s not a plug-and-play solution, but once set up, it’s pretty reliable. The key is making sure each step in the process is capturing and passing along that crucial gclid. Might take some trial and error, but it’s worth it for accurate conversion tracking.

hey mate, i’ve been there. heres a hack: use UTM parameters in ur landing page URL. then make a custom field in calendly to grab those params. zapier can snag that info and pass it to google ads. its not perfect but it works. good luck!
