AI-generated place names: Surprisingly accurate at times

Hey everyone! I’ve been playing around with an AI tool called Miro for a while now. It’s pretty cool for brainstorming and stuff, but I noticed something interesting about its name generation feature. Sometimes, it comes up with really good location names!

I mean, most of the time they’re kinda weird or random, but every now and then, it hits the nail on the head. Like, I got a few that sounded totally legit for fantasy towns or even real places.

Has anyone else noticed this? What’s the best location name you’ve gotten from Miro or any other AI tool? I’m curious to hear your experiences!

I’ve been tinkering with AI name generators for my D&D campaigns, and I’ve gotta say, they can be surprisingly good sometimes. One tool that’s been a game-changer for me is FantasyNameGenerators.com. It’s not strictly AI, but it uses some clever algorithms.

The other day, it spit out ‘Ravencrest’ for a mountain town, and my players loved it. It just fit perfectly with the gloomy, gothic vibe I was going for. Another gem was ‘Saltwhisper Bay’ for a coastal village. It captured that misty, maritime feel without being cliché.

That said, you really have to sift through a lot of duds to find the gems. I usually generate about 50 names and maybe keep 2 or 3. But when you hit on a good one, it’s like striking gold. It saves so much time compared to wracking your brain for hours.

Anyone else have luck with other tools? I’m always on the lookout for new resources to add to my DM toolkit.

I’ve had similar experiences with AI-generated place names, though not specifically with Miro. In my case, I’ve been using a tool called WorldAnvil for worldbuilding, and it has an AI assistant feature. While it often produces generic fantasy-sounding names, occasionally it surprises me with something that feels authentic and fitting for the setting I’m creating.

One standout example was ‘Thornhaven’ for a border town in a region plagued by magical thorny vines. It perfectly captured the essence of the place without being too on-the-nose. I’ve found that the key is to generate multiple options and then curate the best ones, as the hit rate for truly great names isn’t particularly high. Still, it’s a useful tool for sparking creativity when you’re stuck.
