Hi everyone! I’ve been using Airtable with automated workflows for a while now. My setup was working great until recently when everything started breaking down. The automation scripts are taking forever to process data and sometimes they don’t complete at all. This is really frustrating because my workflow depends on these automations running smoothly. I’m considering moving to make.com since it seems more reliable, but I know it will take much longer to rebuild everything from scratch. Has anyone else experienced similar problems with Airtable’s automation features lately? Would love to hear your thoughts on alternatives.
Had the exact same issue six months ago - Airtable automations kept timing out and failing constantly. Tested both platforms and picked n8n over make.com purely for cost reasons. The self-hosted option saved me tons compared to make.com’s pricing, especially with high data volumes. Learning curve’s definitely steeper, but you get way more flexibility. Complex logic and error handling that Airtable can’t touch. Took me two weeks part-time to migrate everything, but zero failures since then. Make.com’s easier if money’s not tight, but n8n gives you total control.
Been there, done that. Airtable automation is a nightmare when it breaks.
Make.com and n8n work, but you’re right - the rebuild time sucks. You’ll hit the same scaling problems later anyway.
Try Latenode for automations and keep your data in Airtable. You won’t lose your existing structure and relationships.
I had this same issue last year - data processing choked on larger datasets. Moved automation logic to Latenode, kept everything else. Performance difference was huge.
Latenode connects to Airtable natively. Pull data, process it, push it back. Way more reliable than Airtable’s built-in automation without migrating your entire setup.
You can test it alongside your current setup before switching.
Been there 8 months ago. Airtable’s automation crapped out on larger datasets and timeouts became a daily headache.
Went with n8n over make.com. You can self-host n8n when those heavy jobs keep timing out. Make.com’s decent but you’re stuck with their servers.
Rebuilding’s easier than expected. Got most workflows done in a weekend. n8n’s visual editor feels familiar and community templates speed things up.
Don’t migrate everything at once. Start with your worst automation and test it hard. I kept Airtable for simple tasks while building complex flows in n8n.
Saves me 3 hours weekly on troubleshooting. Worth the switch pain.
