Hey everyone! I’m a newbie to Airtable and currently on the free plan. I’m looking to set up some forms with password protection for adding new records. I’m thinking about upgrading to the ‘Airtable Team’ plan, but I’ve got a few questions:
If I get just one Team license, will that let me make password-protected forms for data entry?
Can volunteers use these forms to add records without me having to buy extra licenses for them?
I’m trying to find a cost-effective way to let volunteers input data without giving them full access to my Airtable setup. Any insights would be super helpful!
As someone who’s been in your shoes, I can offer some insight. The Team plan does allow for password-protected forms, which is great for secure data entry. However, there’s a caveat: while you can create these forms with one license, users still need Airtable accounts to access them.
For your volunteers, this means they’d need to create free Airtable accounts to submit data. It’s not ideal, but it’s a workable solution. One alternative I’ve found effective is using Airtable’s API with a custom front-end. This approach lets you build a secure interface for data entry without additional licenses. It does require some technical know-how, but it offers more flexibility and control over user access.
Consider your team’s technical capabilities and long-term needs when making your decision. The Team plan might be sufficient for now, but as your project grows, you might need a more customized solution.
I’ve been using Airtable for a couple of years now, and I can share some insights on your questions. With the Team plan, you can indeed create password-protected forms, which is a great feature for controlled data entry. However, there’s a catch - while you can create these forms with just one license, anyone accessing them will need to have an Airtable account.
For your volunteers, this means they’d need Airtable accounts, but not necessarily paid ones. They can use free accounts to submit data through your forms. It’s a workable solution, but it does require a bit of setup on their end.
One workaround I’ve found useful is using Airtable’s API with a custom front-end. This way, you can create your own secure interface for data entry without needing additional Airtable licenses. It requires some coding knowledge, but it’s more flexible in the long run.
hey tom, ive used airtable for a bit. team plan lets u make password forms, but volunteers need airtable accounts (free ones work). might be a hassle. another option is using airtables API with a custom form - more work but no extra licenses needed. depends on ur tech skills tho. good luck!
