LibreOffice has been my go-to for about eight months now. The Android version handles DOCX and PDF export just fine, though the interface takes some getting used to if you’re coming from Google Docs. Document compatibility is solid - I share files with colleagues who use Microsoft Office all the time and haven’t hit any formatting issues. Just heads up, LibreOffice eats up more storage than you’d think - around 150MB for the full install. Typing feels responsive on my device, but I’d test it first if you’ve got an older Android phone. Sync isn’t as smooth as Google’s cloud setup, so you’ll need your own file sharing solution like Nextcloud or just stick with local storage.
i tried Collabora Office too, it works good on my android tablet, just takes a bit to load up. but once its up, editing docs is pretty smooth. defo prefer it over google docs for privacy reasons!
OnlyOffice is worth checking out. I’ve used it for six months after getting sick of Google’s data collection. The mobile app handles formatting well and opens DOCX files without breaking the layout like other alternatives do. I love that it feels like Microsoft Office - no learning curve. File saving is easy - export to PDF or keep it as DOCX. Complex documents with lots of images or tables can slow down on mobile, but regular text editing runs smooth. The offline mode works great, which I need since my internet isn’t always stable when I’m working on docs.
