Anyone moved from Wix to WordPress recently?

Hey folks! I’ve been using Wix for a while now but I keep hearing great things about WordPress. Has anyone here made the jump from Wix to WordPress? What made you decide to switch?

I’m wondering if it was worth dealing with the extra complexity that WordPress seems to have. Right now with Wix everything is pretty straightforward - I just drag and drop elements where I want them and don’t worry about hosting or technical stuff.

But I’ve been reading that WordPress gives you way more control and flexibility for things like custom features, SEO optimization, and advanced functionality. Plus there seem to be tons more themes and plugins available.

The thing that worries me is the learning curve though. With Wix I can build and update my site without knowing any code. WordPress looks like it might require more technical knowledge.

If you’ve made this transition, what were the biggest challenges? Was it hard to migrate your content? And do you think the extra effort was worth it in the end?

Would really appreciate hearing from people who have actually used both platforms!

Two years on WordPress after ditching Wix - night and day difference for SEO. Google barely indexed my Wix pages, but WordPress gives me full control over meta tags, schema markup, and site structure. The technical stuff isn’t scary - I went with managed hosting that handles updates and backups automatically. Only pain was recreating Wix’s animated elements. Had to learn basic CSS for that. But the plugin ecosystem is insane. Need booking? There’s a plugin. Want better analytics? Plugin for that too. Wix’s app marketplace constantly hit walls. Content migration was more patience than skill - mostly copy-paste and re-uploading images. Big time investment upfront, but now I save hours monthly since I can modify anything instead of waiting for Wix to maybe add what I need.

Honestly, hosting isn’t as scary as it sounds! I switched last year because Wix got expensive and my site was crawling. Moving everything took 3-4 days, but now I actually own my content instead of being locked into their system. Biggest surprise? My pages load way faster now.

Made this exact switch 8 months ago and should’ve done it way sooner. Wix’s customization limits finally broke me - needed specific business functionality that just wasn’t happening on their platform. Migration was pretty straightforward. Mixed manual copying with WordPress migration tools, knocked it out over a weekend. Hardest part was rebuilding the visual layouts, but honestly ended up looking way better than the original Wix version. Yeah, WordPress has a steeper learning curve, but you don’t need to go full developer mode right away. Grabbed a solid theme and picked up stuff as I went. Huge community means you’ll never be stuck without help or tutorials. Now I can actually build what I need instead of working around platform limits. Plus my site’s way faster.
