Are there drawbacks to relying on Google Docs?

I’ve been a loyal Google Docs user since way back in 2011. It’s become my go-to for pretty much everything I write. I’m super comfortable with it and love that it’s free.

But lately, I’ve been hearing some not-so-great things about using Google Docs. People talk about privacy issues, AI concerns, and terms of service problems. It’s got me wondering if I should look for alternatives.

The thing is, I can’t really afford to pay for other writing software right now. And I’m not sure if free alternatives would be any better when it comes to these issues.

I’m feeling a bit lost and confused about what to believe. Has anyone else struggled with this? What are your thoughts on sticking with Google Docs versus trying something else? I’d love to hear some opinions from fellow writers.

man, i’ve been using gdocs forever too. it’s so easy, right? but yeah, those privacy concerns are legit. maybe try sumthin like cryptpad? it’s free and supposedly more secure. tbh tho, i still use gdocs for most stuff cuz it just works. guess it depends how paranoid u wanna be lol
