BambuLab’s recent update is a big letdown
I just found out that BambuLab got rid of their third-party APIs. This is a huge bummer for those of us using Home Assistant to control our 3D printers.
Now the HA integration is pretty much useless. We can’t do much besides basic stuff like turning the printer on and off.
Has anyone else run into this problem? I’m wondering if there’s a workaround or if we’re just out of luck. Maybe someone knows if BambuLab plans to bring back API support?
It’s frustrating because I really liked being able to monitor and control my prints through HA. Anyone have ideas on what we can do now?
man, bambulab’s API change really sucks. my ha integration is a mess now and no pi hack works smooth like before. hopin they fix it soon, cuz this whole thing is a pain. anyone got a link to a petition?
As someone who’s been using BambuLab printers for a while, I share your frustration. The API change caught me off guard too. I’ve been looking into alternatives, and while there’s no perfect solution yet, I’ve found a few workarounds that might help.
One option is to use OctoPrint with a Raspberry Pi. It’s not as seamless as the original BambuLab integration, but it does offer some control through Home Assistant. You’ll need to set up the hardware and do some configuration, but it’s a viable stopgap.
Another approach is to monitor your prints using a smart plug and camera. It’s not ideal, but it lets you keep an eye on things remotely and cut power if needed.
I’ve also heard rumors of community developers working on reverse-engineering the new API. It’s not a quick fix, but it might be worth keeping an eye on forums for updates.
In the meantime, I’m considering reaching out to BambuLab directly. If enough users voice their concerns, they might reconsider their decision. It’s a long shot, but worth trying.
I’ve been in the same boat with the BambuLab API changes. It’s been a real pain trying to work around it. One thing I’ve found somewhat helpful is setting up a dedicated Raspberry Pi with a camera to monitor my prints. It’s not as smooth as the old HA integration, but it gives me some peace of mind.
I’ve also been experimenting with MQTT to get basic status updates. It’s not perfect, but it lets me at least know if a print has finished or if there’s been an error. You’ll need to do some coding to get it working, though.
Have you considered reaching out to BambuLab directly? I sent them an email explaining how important the API was for my setup. No response yet, but if enough of us make noise, they might listen.
In the meantime, I’m keeping an eye on the BambuLab community forums. Some clever folks there are working on reverse-engineering the new firmware. It’s a long shot, but it might lead to a community-driven solution eventually.
