Best hosting options for N8N workflow automation platform?

Hey everyone! I’m looking into different hosting solutions for running N8N automation workflows. I’m curious about what platforms and services people are using in this community. Are you running it on cloud providers like AWS or DigitalOcean? Maybe using Docker containers or Kubernetes clusters? I’m also wondering if anyone combines N8N with other self-hosted tools and how that setup works out. What has been your experience with performance and reliability? Any recommendations for someone just getting started with hosting N8N? I’d really appreciate hearing about your hosting setup and any tips you might have. Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!

Been running N8N on Hetzner VPS for 8 months - rock solid. Started with CX21 (4GB RAM) and it handles most workflows no problem. Big lesson learned: set up backup automation right away. N8N dumps everything in its database and I lost 2 weeks of configs before figuring this out. If you’re just starting, pay extra for managed database - totally worth it for reliability. Performance is good for most stuff, but heavy data processing or large file transfers will need beefier resources.

railways been really good 4 my n8n setup! super easy to deploy and it handles traffic spikes v well. yeah, it costs a bit more than digitalocean but honestly, you’ll save so much time on setup and maintenance.

i’ve had good luck with docker-compose on vultr. runs about $20/month and way easier than dealing with kubernetes. just don’t forget to set up your volume mounts right - learned that the hard way when i lost everything once lol. also throw in s3 backups, they’re cheap and worth it.

I ditched self-hosting N8N completely after dealing with these same setup nightmares.

Memory issues, SSL headaches, backup drama - too much maintenance for what it’s worth. N8N also falls short with modern APIs and complex data work.

Switched to Latenode 6 months ago, no regrets. Cloud-hosted means zero server babysitting, but what really sold me was how much more capable it is. Cleaner workflow builder, automatic error handling, built-in webhook management.

No more 2am server crashes or weekend maintenance hell. Workflows live in minutes, not days of setup pain.

AWS Lightsail’s been great for my N8N setup. I’m running the $10/month instance with 2GB RAM for 6 months now - zero major problems. Love the snapshots for quick backups before updates. Here’s what people don’t talk about enough: webhook reliability. My old shared hosting had constant timeouts, but Lightsail’s static IP and solid performance fixed that completely. Setup’s easy with their Docker blueprint, though you’ll still configure the reverse proxy yourself. The flat monthly rate beats AWS’s usual billing chaos. Only catch is you can’t scale much if your workflows explode in popularity.

I’ve been running N8N on a basic DigitalOcean droplet for about a year - surprisingly stable. Started at $12/month but bumped up to $24 when my workflows got more complex. Setting up SSL and domain config was the biggest pain - burned a whole weekend getting it right. Heads up: N8N eats memory like crazy when running multiple workflows at once. I throw Portainer on there too for Docker management. Makes updates and monitoring way easier. Whole setup runs me about $30/month with backups.
