Been running N8N on Hetzner VPS for 8 months - rock solid. Started with CX21 (4GB RAM) and it handles most workflows no problem. Big lesson learned: set up backup automation right away. N8N dumps everything in its database and I lost 2 weeks of configs before figuring this out. If you’re just starting, pay extra for managed database - totally worth it for reliability. Performance is good for most stuff, but heavy data processing or large file transfers will need beefier resources.
railways been really good 4 my n8n setup! super easy to deploy and it handles traffic spikes v well. yeah, it costs a bit more than digitalocean but honestly, you’ll save so much time on setup and maintenance.
i’ve had good luck with docker-compose on vultr. runs about $20/month and way easier than dealing with kubernetes. just don’t forget to set up your volume mounts right - learned that the hard way when i lost everything once lol. also throw in s3 backups, they’re cheap and worth it.
